The Man Event: Pizza, Wings and the Body of Christ

I’m still reeling from the Man Event—the men’s only gathering held up at Flatirons after the Broncos playoff victory against the Steelers Sunday night (1/8/12). There were hot wings (courtesy of our good friends at Quaker Steak & Lube), pizza and…more importantly 4,000 men!

4,000 men—all crammed into the church auditorium for a standing room only event to hear Jim and Scott speak frankly about what God is looking for from the men at Flatirons. If you were there, you know what I mean when I say it was humbling…and electrifying.
Boys…men…adolescents…”man-boys”.
Blacks…whites…Hispanics…Asians.
Those on walkers…those in wheelchairs…those still in their running shoes.
Married…divorced…the about-to-be-married…the lost and the lonely…those who long for—who dream and pray for—someone special.
The hairy…the bald…the self-assured…the self-conscious.
The hurting…the broken…those about to be broken.
Simply put…I saw the Body of Christ.
A body. Made up of a multitude of cells…all coming together…separate and individual…coming together to form one. What the Apostle Paul calls the Body of Christ.
“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”                                                       1 Corinthians 12:12
I firmly believe that Sunday night was a watershed moment in the history of Flatirons Community Church. I believe that God will honor what happened Sunday night at the Man Event—the same way He did many years ago to those who sought after Him, when He said,
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the LORD…”                                                                                    Jeremiah 29:11-14
At the Man Event, we gathered to call on God's name, to pray, and to listen to Him. We stepped out…seeking Him with all our hearts—trusting He will be found.
I love knowing that God has a plan…a plan for you…a plan for me…a plan for our families…and a plan for all of Flatirons: the Body of Christ.

  2. Yes, that would be great if we could get an audio version. Also, do you think there will be a followup event in the future some time?
